Description

Region:Frankland River, Australia

GrapeVarieties: Shriaz

Score:James Halliday 96 Robert Parker 91

The cool climate and gravelly soils of theFrankland River Region in the south of Western Australia are well suited to theproduction of intense and elegantly structured wines.

The aim, since the first Jarrah Shiraz wasmade in 1995, has been to craft a wine that truly displayed the best thatShiraz can give when grown in Frankland River with the recognition that thiscan only be achieved in the great vintage years.

The Jarrah Shiraz is only made in smallvolumes, using carefully selected premium fruit from our oldest Shirazvines.  Traditional fermentation in small open vessels, which are handplunged 3 to 4 times daily, the 2011 Shiraz was then pressed off skins afterextended skin contact.  Malolactic fermentation occurred while maturing in1/3 new French Oak followed by a maturation in barrel for 20 months.

It has a brilliant deep crimson with garnethue, on the palate, it has vibrant flavours of black cherry and plumswith a lively acid profile interwoven with savoury black pepper, leather andfine-grained tannin structure. It is ready to enjoy now but will gain complexityover the next eight to ten years with careful cellaring.
